Texas Christian University, better known as TCU, is a private university located just a few miles from downtown Fort Worth, Texas. It was founded in 1873 by two brothers, Addison and Randolph Clark, and originally opened as AddRan Male and Female College. It was among the first schools in the region to admit both men and women. After a few moves—and even surviving a campus fire—TCU found its permanent home in Fort Worth in 1910 and has been growing ever since.
TCU provides a wide range of degree programs through its ten colleges and schools, including:
AddRan College of Liberal Arts
Neeley School of Business
Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences
College of Science & Engineering
Schieffer College of Communication
College of Fine Arts
School of Medicine
College of Education
Honors College
School of Interdisciplinary Studies
Students often choose majors in business, nursing, communication, and education. TCU keeps class sizes small—averaging about 26 students per class—which makes for a more personalized and engaging learning experience.
TCU’s campus covers over 325 acres and features a mix of historic charm and modern buildings. There are more than 400 student-run organizations, plenty of events, and a strong Greek life scene. The university focuses on building a tight-knit, spirited community through its traditions and student involvement.
TCU’s sports teams, known as the Horned Frogs, are a big deal on campus. They play in NCAA Division I as part of the Big 12 Conference, and the school has earned national attention, especially in football and baseball. The campus vibe is lively, especially during game days and rivalry matchups.
Getting into TCU is competitive, with an acceptance rate around 42%. The school offers various financial aid options, including scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study, to help students manage the cost of attendance.
